The heat in the boardroom was even higher than the heat in the kitchen tonight when Ian Stringer became the third candidate to be fired by Sir Alan Sugar on The Apprentice
Week three saw the teams heading off to the pub, but not for a drink. Sir Alan Sugar has set the teams a catering task, and the team which turns the biggest profit from a themed evening of pub grub wins.
This week, Sir Alan picked the team leaders, Sara Dhada for Alpha (the girls) and Ian Stringer for Renaissance (the boys).
The boys are given the Duke of Hamilton in Hampstead, while the girls get The King's Head in Islington. Both teams have just 24 hours.
As has become the custom, both teams start the task with a meeting. While the boys bond in a 'love-in' style team talk, the girls, especially Claire, are combative. The boys opt for a Taste of Italy while the girls opt for a Bollywood theme night.
The first task for both teams is to plan their menus. The girls copy food ideas from a nearby Indian restaurant. For the boys, Kevin appoints himself as Chef and comes up with a hardly inspiring menu of Carbonara, Spaghetti Bolognese and Pizza.
For the designated kitchen staff, there are two main tasks to complete on day one. First, design and price the menu, and then order in appropriate supplies. Alpha, the girls team, buy cheap local meat in a timely fashion but there first attempts at cooking are a disaster so the lunchtime session passes without selling a single meal.
The boys spend so long arguing that they miss the chance to buy food from the wholesalers, so have to buy all of their ingredients from the deli and their local Tesco, all at high street prices.
In the evening, both teams are successful, though the boys run short of ingredients and try to get away with serving half pizzas. The girls meanwhile make a great success of Bollywood night.
On to the boardroom, and when Sir Alan reveals the night's takings, the boys are ahead, making £844.97 compared to the girls £795. However, the boy's profit is just £301.97 against £604 for the girls. So the girls get a trip to a world-famous country manor cookery school, courtesy of Sir Alan.
Ian takes two of his team, Simon and Kevin, back in the boardroom to face Sir Alan Sugar. He places most of the blame squarely at Kevin's feet. After promising Sir Alan better results, Simon stays to fight again. Although unsure whether or not to believe Kevin, the boss decides that for now, he too, can stay. The choice is made.
Sir Alan decides that there was no smoke without fire and tells Ian "You#39;re Fired!"
Ian is left to depart in the taxi, and maybe he will now have to learn how to spell the word loser after all...
