The second show of auditions for this year's Britain's Got Talent is on ITV1 this Saturday at 8.05pm
Last week's first show in the current series started with a bang with 10.6 million people tuning in. This week the show starts in Birmingham as the Britain's Got Talent audition tour continues and the Judges continue their search for the next big act. The talents of Birmingham have turned up in their masses, there are kid acts, singers, jugglers, dance group, animal acts, you name it they have turned up in their thousands hoping to unleash their talents knowing that Britain's Got Talent is the once place in town where anything goes and everyone is welcome. They are all here to compete for the prize of a lifetime, £100,000 and the chance to perform in front of HRH Prince Wales at this year's Royal Variety Performance.
Tonight's show sees the judges (and Ant and Dec) travel to Birmingham, Manchester and London and we see a man who thinks he can strip his way to the Royal Variety, a 10 year old with a big voice, a Mum dancing for all the "big girls out there", two men who get Amanda Holden hot under the collar and a pair of runaway ferrets.
We asked the judges what they are looking for:
Piers Morgan - "I'm hoping we will find some great animal acts, a great juggling act, I'm looking for a great variety act to give the singers a run for their money"
Amanda Holden - "I definitely want to be wowed, something different, outrageous, exciting, as long as they have talent they will get through, no talent gets past us."
Simon Cowell - "You've got to have talent you've got to be unique and most importantly you've got to be popular. I'd like to find someone who could be a star all over the world."
I'm too sexy for my Mac
The first act tonight in Birmingham desperate to show off his 'unique' talent, is ex Army driver and Dad of three, Glyn Carpenter from Plymouth. Glyn describes his act as, "totally unique….when the Judges see it they won’t ever see anything like this again". Glyn starts his act dressed in a flat cap and raincoat, singing his own version of Right Said Fred's "I'm too Sexy" and then proceeds to shed his raincoat leaving only a chicken thong covering his modesty, much to the shock of Ant & Dec and the theatre audience. The Judges are taking no chances that anything else gets removed and all three buzz in double quick time. The audience are shocked, Amanda doesn't know where to look and Piers says what is on everyone's minds, "Glyn, I don't know what that was but that's not talent".
Small boy with a big voice
Next on stage is 10 year old Charlie Green from Droitwich Spa. Charlie has been singing since he was 3 and his dream is to sing in front of a huge audience with a band behind him, as he tells Ant & Dec "It would mean every word in the dictionary to me if I won this show". Charlie starts off well, choosing to sing one of Simon Cowell's favourite songs, the Frank Sinatra classic Summer Wind. The audience are on their feet and Simon is clicking his fingers to the track, has Simon just found the act he has been looking for?
One Hot MammaBirmingham over for tonight, the auditions move to London. First on in London is Anya Sparks, 42, a stay at home mum of three. Anya loves dancing while she is doing the housework. So she has dusted off her pinny, put on her best sparkly outfit and is ready to let it all hang out for the Judges. Pulling a chair onto stage, and with a very loose revealing top, Anya goes for it dancing to Britney's hit Toxic. Simon Cowell is really unsure where to look but Amanda, Piers and the 2,000 strong audience are loving it and dance along with her. But Ant & Dec are concerned that Anya's top may slip and result in a stage 'spillage'. As Simon hits Piers and Amanda's buzzers, Anya's time is up, and Simon asks "what the bloody hell was that? There is not one person on the planet that would pay to see that showquot;. "That was big girl power Simon" Anya retaliates, much to the delight of the audience. But Piers is obviously impressed, "I've waited my entire life for a woman like you", but will she get the two yes's she needs to make it through to the next stage of the competition?
Is Charlie the first 13 year old to get one over on Simon?
Next up and hoping to keep everyone smiling is Charlie Wernham, 13, a budding young comedian from Essex. "Why did you enter Britain's Got Talent?" asks Simon, "Because everyone tells me I'm a funny guy, well my Nan mainly". As the cheeky little chap launches into his routine it is not long before the Judges and the audience are in stitches, and Charlie seems to be the first comedian whose jokes Simon actually gets, "We have seen some terrible comedians on this show, but these were a), the only jokes that made me laugh, and b), the only ones I've heard that I understand, if your Nan discovered you I'd like her to come and work for me". Simon then asks where Charlie's Nan is, "she died a year ago" replies Charlie to a mortified looking Simon, but Charlie has the last laugh, laughing his head off to Simon's reaction, "Are you winding me up? Why are you smilingquot; asks Simon, "no she did die a year ago" explains Charlie "But it was great to see the big man cry!!"
Escaping Ferrets
London over for week two, the auditions move to Manchester.
The first Manchester act is a first for Britain's Got Talent, dancing ferrets... Caz and Judy have come along today with 10 of their ferrets to do the 'weasel war dance', as Caz explains, "It's quite well known that ferrets can do the weasel war dance, if you wave anything at them they will go berserk". Judy has 107 ferrets at home but the act does not get off to a great start as back stage Judy drops one of the ferrets on the floor, and things go from bad to worse on stage as the ferrets fail to perform and make a bid for freedom, leaving Ant & Dec to catch and collect the escaping ferrets side of stage, much to the hilarity of the audience. An exhausted Ant is relieved when the Judges finally hit the buzzers. "Unless I am missing something they weren't dancing, one tried to mate the other and the rest ran off, it just fell apart didn't it" asks Simon, not a great debut on Britain's Got Talent.
One for the ladies
Next up are Strike, and extreme martial arts duo, made up of Liam Richards, 19, and Daniel Boyle, 22 who are sure to get all the ladies hearts racing. Liam and Daniel have dedicated their whole lives to martial arts and they have trained hard for this competition hoping it can take their act to the ultimate stage, but can they pack a punch with the Judges? As soon as they walk out on stage Amanda is certainly impressed as she coos, "I am going to have a lovely dream later!". The boys flip and kick their way around the stage, even ripping off their t-shirts, much to the delight of Amanda and all the women in the audience. "You were sensational" says Amanda and even Simon is impressed, but Piers just thinks it was reminiscent of his "workout in the gym"....eerrrm, not quite Piers. With a Yes from Amanda will Piers and Simon delight the rest of the women in the theatre and watching at home and put Strike through to the next stages?
Who are you meant to be?
David Watson, 51, is an impressionist and he has been working on his impression of three MPs, Tony Blair, William Hague and David Blunkett especially for the last couple of months. David does not get off to the best start, revealing who he will be impersonating before he starts, "surely we should be able to guess if you are any good" queries Piers. Despite the use of some props, a bold cap and a beard, everyone seems quite baffled by David's act, not quite getting who he is meant to be but the audience and Judges are laughing along, although it just seems to be at him rather than with him.
Doing it for her kids
The final act for tonight has more reasons than most for wanting to make it through to the live shows, Madonna Decia from the Philippines came to the UK to make money for her family, but has had to leave her two children behind with her parents. Although she sends money home every week Madonna has not seen her two daughters in over six months and desperately wants to save up enough money to fly her children to the UK. As she explains her situation to the Judges, Amanda is welling up before Madonna even opens her mouth to sing, getting Madonna going too, so the chivalrous Dec runs on stage with a tissue. Once she has composed herself, Madonna launches into a rendition of Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You, blowing the Judges and the audience away and leaving not a dry eye in the house, "I know you were singing that song for your babies weren’t you, and you do not need to worry because I think you are going to go such a long way in this show and you’ll get that money to get your children on a plane to be with you because you lady have talent", weeps Amanda. With a reaction like that and a huge smile on Simon's face, surely Madonna is one step closer to seeing her daughters again?
