The nominations for the 2008 British Soap Awards have been announced
The British Soap Awards 2008 are back and this year celebrate their 10th anniversary. The British Soap Awards ceremony is set to be bigger than ever as it looks back over another year of tears, trials, tribulations and tantrums from the nation's biggest TV shows.
Entries from the five biggest soaps are eligible – Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks – and stars from all five soap operas will don their finest clobber on the night for what promises to be one of the award calendar's most glamorous occasions.
The British Soap Awards 2008 will be hosted by This Morning presenters Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield with the awards being presented by some of the entertainment world's most famous faces, so there is everything to play for in the soap world's 'oscars'.
The British Soap Awards honour outstanding achievement in the country's most popular television genre. There are 17 awards and the categories are voted for either by a panel of expert judges or by the viewing public. The awards include Sexiest Male and Female, Best Actor and Actress, Best Comedy Performance, Villain of the Year, Spectacular Scene of the Year, Best On-Screen Partnership and the ultimate accolade, Best British Soap, which was won by Coronation Street in 2007. There is also an annual Lifetime Achievement Award which is awarded to the individual who has displayed lifelong dedication to the genre. Previous winners have included Coronation Street's Johnny Briggs and Wendy Richards from EastEnders.
After the awards ceremony, Michael Underwood and Caroline Flack will bring you all the gossip from stars and the after show party on ITV2's The British Soap Awards: The Party.
There is still time to vote for your favourite soap to receive the Best Soap Award. You can vote by going to www.britishsoapawards.tv and voting online or by phone - 09016 16 2008 and then you follow the instructions - or by text – you need to text SOAP plus the name of the soap to 63339. Voting closes on Friday 2nd May at 3pm. Please do not vote after the lines have closed as your vote will not be counted but you may still be charged.
