Cheryl Cole is to be the new X Factor judge, replacing Sharon Osbourne who left the series last week
ITV announced today that Cheryl Cole will join the judges on the upcoming series of The X Factor. The Girls Aloud star will take her place on the judging panel next to Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue on this year's search for a new singing sensation on the hit ITV show.
Cheryl Cole was catapulted to fame in 2002 when Girls Aloud won Popstars: The Rivals. Girls Aloud's debut single, Sound of the Underground, went platinum and reached the coveted Christmas number one slot staying at the top of the charts for four weeks. Girls Aloud have gone on to be one of the most successful British pop groups of the millennium with a record-breaking 18 consecutive Top 10 singles, five platinum albums and four arena tours.
Cheryl Cole said, "I'm so excited to be part of such a great show and although it's scary joining a huge programme like The X Factor, it's a massive honour to be following in the footsteps of Sharon Osbourne."
Cheryl Cole will join Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue in London this week for the start of filming along with ITV1 presenter Dermot O'Leary and new ITV2 host on The Xtra Factor, Holly Willoughby. X Factor returns to our screens later in the summer.
