The X-Factor returns to ITV1 at 7.30pm on Saturday 16th August
X Factor, the twice BAFTA-award winning talent show is back for its fifth series with a brand new line-up. Regular judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue are joined by Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole. The judging panel once again travel the length and breadth of Britain looking for this year's new singing sensation. Following last year's rollercoaster ride of entertainment, 2008 promises to be as explosive as ever. Tune in from Saturday August 16th on ITV1 when all the X-Factor madness kicks off.
Dermot O'Leary returns to host the X-Factor proceedings and will be on hand to celebrate with the successful acts and mop up the tears of those that are turned away as they endure the nerve wracking experience that is
the judging room. Dermot also has the unenviable task of presiding over the always opinionated Judging panel once the show reaches the live stages.
This year new girl Holly Willoughby fronts the ITV2 spin-off show The Xtra Factor with access to all the behind-the-scenes gossip, exclusive interviews
with the Judges and the unforgettable auditions that will make you cry with laughter and cringe with embarrassment.
Yet again, creative director Brian Friedman returns, using his vast experience and expertise as a dancer and
choreographer, to help style and choreograph the finalists performances once the X-Factor reaches the live shows stage.
Once again there are four categories, and like last year, the show is open to performers aged 14 and over
splitting the categories into: Boys (14-24s), Girls (14-24s), 25 and Overs and the Groups. In addition to their judging duties, Simon, Louis, Dannii and Cheryl will each preside over a category to mentor and guide them towards the climax of the competition. The prize of an amazing £1 million recording contract and a shot at this year's Christmas number 1 is up for grabs for one lucky winner. With Dannii triumphant after last year's win with her act Leon Jackson, the pressure is on all four Judges to pick the act they hope will go on to win the X-Factor for them.
This year there have been a record-breaking number of applications, and with tens of thousands attending
auditions all over the UK the X-Factor promises to be bigger and better, and as explosive as ever. Highlights including: a 64 year old pensioner whose audition
song leaves the Judges blushing; a blast from the past for Cheryl which gives her the ultimate dilemma; the sister of one of the stars of the UK's biggest boy bands auditions and Wales offers up possibly the best duo the X Factor Judges have ever seen.
With 2006 winner Leona Lewis achieving global
chart success and international critical acclaim, all four Judges will be hoping that one of their acts can follow her to achieve the same international and chart success.
